Point One

An extra assignment is available for people who plagiarised in Assignment 1, but it is not compulsory. Those people can personally pick it up from me during class next week, if you return your original Assignment 1 to me at the same time.

Point Two

These things are considered important for Assignment 2 (not in order of importance):

• Followed written and oral instructions for formatting
• Included data from the bullet points in your Assignment 2 handout
• Submitted as a printed document before deadline (not submitted on-line)
• Included one table and one figure to illustrate or describe your points, and used them correctly
• Enough white space
• Spell-checked and proof-read
• Sensible paragraphing, with topic sentences where desirable, and with text that flows where possible
• Produced your own work; not plagiarised from the Web or from other people or sources
• Document has the look and feel of a report, including enough information in the introduction to make it understandable by itself, sensible headings and bullet-point or numbered conclusions rather than letter-style conclusions
• Used numbers correctly
• Right level of formality
• Properly cited three of the articles provided according to the APA style guide, in order to compare, stress, contrast, discuss or emphasise points you wished to make

Tribina “Vodič kroz Bolonju”

Početak nove akademske godine i dolazak naših novih kolega pravo je vreme da se više pažnje posveti uslovima studiranja i onome što nas očekuje u skorijoj budućnosti. Upravo zbog toga, Studentska unija Filozofskog fakulteta u utorak, 04. novembra u 17h organizuje tribinu pod nazivom ”Vodič kroz Bolonju”. Tribinu će voditi predsedavajuća Studentske unije Srbije, Milica Popović, inače naša koleginica. Cilj nam je da informišemo studente o pravima i uslovima studiranja koje treba da zahtevaju u procesu reforme visokog obrazovanja. Samo adekvatno informisani studenti mogu da znaju koja im prava pripadaju i kako za njih mogu da se bore.

Zato, vidimo se u utorak u 17h u Kino sali Filozofskog fakulteta!!

To Academic Writers:
Your homework is to write an outline for your leaflet. Don't write the leaflet.

1. Read your handout on "Beginning to Write", especially p.3 (Planning your Writing - the Outline).
2. Make notes (short phrases, key words etc) about the main points you will put in your leaflet, using the language you would need to actually write the leaflet.
3. Take just 15 minutes to write your outline.
4. Give it to me next week.

To all 3rd year students:

Here is our reply from the Head of the English Department:

1, Academic writing is compulsory for students from translating, teaching and literature streams, but elective for students from the linguistic stream.

2. Students should earn 30 points per semester. In reality, as the points are tallied at the end of the year, they would require 60 points in total (before enrolling in the following year).

3. The number of courses students take varies with the points value of the courses.

To 3rd year students:

I haven't yet heard back from anybody in authority with answers to your questions about Academic Writing.

As far as I know:

1. Academic Writing is an elective (i.e. not compulsory) subject for Linguistic stream students. For all other students it is compulsory.

2. Each term you should be able to enrol in courses (usually 8 of them) that are worth at least 30 ESB points. You can check this on the university web-site: http://www.ff.ns.ac.yu/studije/osnovne/studije_osnovne_anglistika.html
